Love, sex & instructions for use (part I)

Enamoramiento.

Infatuation. To me, it means concentrating sight, hearing and the other senses, as well as thoughts, on one person at one time. It may last a minute or a few hours, it is intense, often burning plenty of energy and it is not a state of being that can be maintained for a long time, or at least I would not know how to do so, and I haven't met anyone yet who could hold it for longer.

It's just BEING, being present in all senses and focus this presence onto a particular person at a given time. It's a beautiful feeling, two beings sharing, entering a special connection that transcends the merely physical, mental or spiritual. At such times the three come together in an almost telepathic experience, one can read the other's thoughts, feel what the other feels, physically and spiritually.

It is a promise of here and now, nothing MORE, nothing LESS. There is no yesterday nor tomorrow, no promises, no "guarantees", no "security" but here and now. It is one of the moments in which I most fully experience the present, can feel its energy, can forget my past and my future, memories and projects.

Beautiful moments I try to live every time I can with people who allow me to do so, people who leave their fears aside and share those moments with me.

I wish there were more such moments in our lives, I wish we knew to leave fears aside and enjoy the present, approach people with our armour removed, standing tall, arms and lungs open, lifted forehead, eyes to the front and a smile on our lips. Without fear. With the sole desire to love.

Life has given me the privilege to live many such moments, and I know that many still await me ... I am very grateful for that.

Educated by TV

I just read this article, it makes so much sense.

It says it all, and I agree to almost all of what is written. Except maybe the point that food should only be considered fuel for our body. Nature has a beautiful way of making its creatures do what they need to keep on living, that they actually enjoy doing it.

It is FUN to live, and it is great to eat, food is bright, fresh, crunchy and TASTY! That's why we have our taste buds, food is not easy to come by, if we didn't like it so much, many of us would just rest and forget about dinner. Luckily there is this incredibly simple mechanism of reward-punishment. You go out and look for food? You are rewarded by the taste of it. You stay in your cave and sleep in? You get a rumbling belly.

I really think that enjoying what you eat is as healthy as eating itself, to a certain degree. The food industry is actually based on this, that's why monosodium glutamate is in everything, because it makes food taste "good" (a much more fitting description would be "addictive" in this case).

When we break the habit of eating all those chemicals that the industry uses to make their products brightly coloured, smell good and keep for ages, we realize that nature offer us the best tasting, smelling, feeling food that we can possibly ask for! Eating a tomato, a strawberry, a melon or whatever our species has eaten for million of years not only tastes good, but allow us to keep our natural health.

Then there's the issue of the responsibility... And to that, this is the comment I left under the article ;-)!

"What responsibility does the Food Network have on how I nourish myself? Really? Is anybody telling me that a TV network has any responsibility on what I put on my table and in my belly? WAKE UP PEOPLE! Throw your TV out of the window and live life RESPONSIBLY, the only people who are not responsible of their lives are babies! And that's only temporary.

TV is made by those who watch it, where there's no shares, there would be no Deen’s show, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Cupcake Wars, and Dessert First. WE ARE RESPONSIBLE OF OURSELVES AND OUR KIDS, so let's give them a PROPER education, and let us not leave the Disney Channel do that for us. It's the same as letting the Food Channel educating us on healthy diets.

The way we eat is part of that education, and this comes from an Italian raised on pasta and bread, luckily enough in our kitchen there have always been fresh fruits and vegetables, but also meat of all sort, desserts and industrial foods.

The information we need is out there, one only needs to go and click for it, it's that easy, one only needs the will and the interest to do it.

Let us all change our values, let us all look up to people who really support what's important, not only a healthy lifestyle, but also (yes, it's cheesy, this is how bad the situation is, it's cheesy to mention what really matters) love, friendship, support, compassion, understanding, kindness, in short humanity..."

Is the Food Network Supporting Obesity?

Angels of Iran

Yes, it was a lot of information what came to me in the last two weeks about this remote country that I never visited, and possibly never will. Not only was I pushed to remembering events that happened over two years ago, images and feelings that were neatly stored in my past memories. Not only was I given a glimpse in this people's daily lives.

The information I received led me to the discovery of a whole new community, a new religious faith that I had no idea existed. The Baha'is.

It is a relatively new religion, it was born in the mid 19th century. I am not a religious person, in fact I do not believe in any omnipotent and omnipresent divinity that hovers over our heads. Although I have been raised in the Christian faith, with the years I have discovered that religion is too often used as an excuse to do whatever people want to do at a given time, it is a handy tool for repressions and is used since the eve of time to start wars for power.

It surprised me to discover the systematic persecution of these people for their believes, not because persecuting the "different" is anything new but, as said, because I did not even know this community existed until a few days ago.

Many minorities, religious, cultural, or else, are punished only because they are not as they are supposed to be, because they are different from what is commonly accepted by "society". Kurds in Turkey, Serbs and Croats in Croatia and Serbia, Muslims in India or Christians in Egypt, gays, black people, indio people, down to women and, of course, Jews. Jews, the symbol of persecution.

The story of the Baha'is sounds a little like the one of the Jews. Culturally formed, of wealthy families, punished for their wealth and their knowledge. I have my opinion on the Jews persecution throughout history and their role in the past and present society, although one thing is clear to me.

It is not right to imprison somebody only because they believe in something that is different from the rest. It is not right
taking a man or a woman away from their homes and their families and condemn them to jail, hardship, deprivation of food, warmth and love, torture and even death. The injustice of that is so very clear to me that it does not matter who they are, where they come from, what political, religious or social view they support, the colour of their skin, the passport in their wallets, IT IS JUST NOT RIGHT.

This is actually what I felt I had to share, the plight of these people, a whole community that is persecuted mainly because, in many parts of the world (even closer to home then we imagine) it is dangerous to learn, to know. Knowledge is the most dangerous weapon against the people who assure you that you don't need to think, people who give you rules (be it religious, social, political, economical, or else) and tell you that these are the rules everybody is supposed to live by, no need to think, just obey.

Ignorance is the greatest cancer, the only solution is knowledge. Let's stop the persecution of the difference, let's learn from the different, let us all get much richer in spirit by sharing what each of us know and is.
